Writing the lives of others-interviewing approaches and techniques with published author Tony Rogers.

‘Oral history is a bit like doing detective work. You gather information by talking with people. Your  job as an interviewer is not  so much to ask questions, but is more about listening and encouraging your informant to talk. There are good ways and bad ways of doing this. We will look at how to conduct and record an effective interview and then how to use and interpret the information you have gathered. The interviews are the raw material for the writing of history. The information you gather provides the answers to questions about the past that you think are important or which interest you. It is these answers and the way that you write about them that become the history.’
