The next step is for us to meet. At this interview you have the opportunity to find out about us, our goals, the actual work associated with a particular position, and what support and training we offer. We will discuss what areas interest you, what time you can offer, and what skills you have. Some activities and programs require special aptitudes or training whilst others need skills that can be learned. It is important to us that our volunteers look forward to helping at The Hut so we give a lot of attention to giving you a placement that you enjoy and makes you feel rewarded and fulfilled.
At the interview we will also explain in more detail our screening process. Because The Hut deals with vulnerable people, all our volunteers are required to fill out an application form, have a current police check (free of charge if you need to apply for one). provide us with the names of two referees and sign a confidentiality agreement.
Once the application process is completed we will advise you if there is a position we feel is suitable for you. We will organise a start date and an induction and advise if training is required beforehand.
If The Hut does not have a role we believe is right for you, we may be able to advise you of opportunities we know of in different organisations.
On your start day, you will be introduced to the people you will be working with and be left in the care of the person training you for the position.
The Volunteer Recruitment Officer will keep in touch with you to provide an opportunity to discuss progress, voice any concerns and ensure you are satisfied with the role you have undertaken.
