Repair Cafe

The Repair Cafe is a pop up event that invites people of all backgrounds to get household items repaired by volunteer expert fixers for free. The Repair Cafe is a place for the community to come together, to recognise and share skills and to reduce unnecessary household waste. Volunteer repair experts will take the time to explain the repair process to participants, helping them to learn new skills and understand the benefits of repairing. The event will include live music and low cost refreshments and a general marketplace vibe. Our Repair Cafe is based on the worldwide Repair Cafe movement that has taken off with great success in creating community connection and promoting sustainability.

   

Yoga in the Gardens

Enjoy free yoga sessions for everybody in the tranquillity of Stangate House gardens with Bec Trethowan.

Bec is in the final stages of completing her qualification as a yoga teacher. As part of her final practical she is offering a free beginners course.

Community Cook Up – Ginger Bread Houses with Raelene

Join Raelene, Hut Volunteer and master baker and learn the art and tradition of baking and decorating gingerbread houses.

This session is part of our (nearly) monthly Community Cook Up – where every month hills locals share family receipes, stories and a meal.

Payment is per gingerbread house – individuals, families or groups are welcome to attend and individually or jointly create a gingerbread house.

Make a Christmas Wreath with Bec

8 Week Animation Course

When: Wednesdays weekly from Feb 6th – Mar 27th 2019

Join GooRoo Animation for a series of 8 action-packed workshops over Term 1 2019 at Woorabinda, Stirling.

Participants will try their hand at a whole range of animation techniques including claymation, Lego, mixed media, flipbooks, whiteboard, pixilation and skittles animation. Each week their short film will be screened to the group and uploaded to YouTube to be shared with friends and family.

The course will commence on February 6 (in week 2 of Term 1) and run from 4-6pm every Wednesday for 8 weeks, finishing March 27. Supervision will be available from 3.30pm so you can come straight from school.

Weave and Exhibit with Janice and Lorna

When: Thursday 14th Feb – 21st March 2019 (6 weekly sessions)

A unique chance to learn Boandik weaving from master weavers and participate in a community exhibition. This activity has been developed in response to popular demand from the community.

Janice Rigney is a Boandik Elder who first learnt to weave with her grandmother at age 9. She is a member of the Southern Elders Weaving Group and will be sharing her skills and knowledge in weaving using reeds and contemporary raffia. Janice runs workshops in weaving across Adelaide with all age groups.

Janice says ‘I like to weave because its relaxing and a way to communicate with other people and cultures. It’s a chance to hand down the culture to future generations. For example I teach my granddaughters just like my grandmother taught me to keep the culture alive.’ She will be joined by her daughter and fellow weaver Lorna Collinson, a Ngarrindjeri and Boandik woman.
