Congratulations to Sandra Rolfe who was nominated for  an Australia Day Adelaide Hills Council Civic Award for 2016.

Sandra has been an active volunteer in the Adelaide Hills Community for a significant number of years and has volunteered with The Hut Community Centre for 9 years, with a regular weekly commitment.

Sandra’s role within The Hut’s Book Shed is coordinating the children’s book section. She does this with great enthusiasm and takes the role very seriously. The Children’s books are an important part of the Book Shed, encouraging children to read and provides an opportunity for schools to visit on special outings where they have story time and the chance to choose and purchase their own books. Sandra also plays an active role on the Book Shed committee where she contributes to the continuous improvement of the operations of the Book Shed.

The Book Shed is a vital arm of The Hut Community Centre, raising funds for The Hut to provide community services.

Other community involvement includes volunteering with Aldgate Dance for the past 20 years making costumes and assisting backstage at concerts.

Locally Sandra is part of Mylor Red Cross where she assists with fundraising through BBQ’s and markets and through this volunteering, recently assisted with cooking a meal for 300 people in a National Gardening Club event.

Sandra was part of the team activated to travel to QLD for the past 3 years to assist during the floods. She was also there after the Sampson Flat Fires assisting in the Relief Centres and Outreach throughout the year.

We thank Sandra for her tireless efforts and congratulate her for her nomination.
